AI-Driven Donor Intelligence for Cancer Research
Automated social media analytics and donor insights enabling suburb-level fundraising campaigns for groundbreaking research.
The Problem
Our client, a cancer research institute undertaking internationally notable research, had an extensive and geographically diverse donor base. However, they lacked visibility over donor behaviour, trends, and engagement patterns. Their donor data was managed in spreadsheets with no centralised, secure platform for analysis.
The institute also wanted to understand when, where, and from whom their research focus areas were gaining attention on social media, intelligence that could inform outreach and fundraising strategies.
As a not-for-profit with limited IT resources, the client needed a solution that was cost-effective, easy to use for non-technical staff, and quick to deploy.
The Mahi
DataSing framed up strategic business outcomes from a data perspective and provisioned our cloud-based data platform to support the institute's needs. We set up rapid upload of existing donor base spreadsheets and configured the platform for ongoing 'drag and drop' data ingestion, with a future path to full automation via API integration with a new CRM system.
We built automated weekly insight reports drawing from social media sources including Instagram and Twitter, tracking trends and engagement related to the institute's research areas. We also provided input into wider IT decisions, including the selection of a new Customer Relationship Management system.
We planned and delivered platform training for the client's team (none of whom were IT professionals) so they could independently access and interpret their data. Monthly governance meetings with the chief scientist ensured we were tracking progress, informing platform development, and delivering on the institute's research outcomes.
The Outcome
The institute now has self-service, weekly visibility over donor information via an intuitive drag-and-drop interface and interactive visualisations, without any material impact to their operational budgets.
They have access to automated weekly social media trend reports configured to run without manual intervention, providing timely intelligence for outreach and fundraising planning.
Donor data is now stored in a secure, managed environment, reducing data privacy and integrity risks considerably. As a result, fundraising campaigns are designed with specific geographic focus, down to individual suburbs, allowing for more targeted and effective engagement.
Following a successful proof of concept, the client signed a twelve-month agreement for ongoing services.
